“Water, as a  commun good to be heard”

In the light of climate change, the vital function of water is more essential than ever: to lower the temperature, to temper spaces in addition to planting and plant cover to produce shade. It can be combined with porous soils such as stabilized, compressed earth, natural components of a new kind to irrigate deeply and evaporate over a longer period, increasing its cooling power.

Whether in the countryside or in the city, ecologists and urban planners are working together to design blue screens, corridors of ponds and streams that allow certain species of birds, amphibians or insects to cross urbanized areas, provided that these aquatic reserves are at relatively close distances.

All these aspects can be pretexts for prospective approaches, imagining how the presence of water and the strong evocative power of its sounds could be reinforced in squares, in parks. To use its calming power and thus contribute to the creation of sound atmospheres on a human and natural scale in cities.

“2068, make place for sound !”

The atmospheres of public squares, places of living together, of gatherings and of popular  protest are changing regarding their uses. What sounds will they present in 50 years? What  materiality will take on and what forms will they take in a world profoundly affected by climate  change and a growing demand for physical and social interactions, in response to the  widespread use of connected technologies and objects, supposed to better connect us?

In this context of "atmospheric" change, will the squares still be places of oral expression,  encounter, common desire, festive gathering and the intersection of differences?

Living in the square (2022)

Designing the atmosphere of squares where people can hear and talk to each other
Public squares, places for living together, for gatherings and protests, are seeing their practices change. In this respect, sound is a symptomatic indicator of their mutations. Faced with societal changes and new ways of living outside, can we predict the sounds they will have tomorrow? What materialities will they take on and what forms will they take in a world profoundly disrupted by climate change, by a growing demand for physical and social interaction, by the widespread use of technologies and connected objects that are supposed to connect us better?
In this "atmospheric" context, will squares remain places of oral expression, of encounters, of the desire for commonality, of festive gatherings and of the crossing of differences?
