Terrace ambiances

Theme

This competition consists in creating pluri-disciplinary teams of students designing space, including architects, engineers and sound  music or art students, to develop a reflexion on how to create a harmonious sound con-ception of public spaces, going beyond the noise reduction problems to imagine and project sound design on a specific existing public space.

The competition Place for sound propose to imagine phonically sustainable terraces where we can listen and talk to eachothers without raising voice. Find a rhythm between day and night activities. Design original spatial devices and choose materials that will contain noise levels within an acceptable perimeter. Find forms that can regulate sound propagation, reduce sound levels and counter the rise of sound volumes in night time to habitations above . Think about the comfort of both consumers and local residents.
